I've been active since Dec. '09 with excercise, eating healthy, etc. etc. with my goal of losing my excess weight and become more healthy. I excercise and do weights @ the gym about 4-5x a week. I've read online and spoke with many fitness guru-type friends and decided to get a HRM. I did my research and decided on the Polar brand.

I was a bit aprehensive when I read that a chest strap is required to be worn for it to work. I am a very big guy. 6'3, large frame, 390 lbs. The product info states the size for the chest strap will fit 46-60 inches and I gladly can report that it fits me fine. I even have a bit of wiggle room. Placing strap on is really easy and once I get moving, I forget it's there at times. Snug enough to keep from moving but not uncomfortably tight. Even when I am drenched in sweat, the strap stays put and won't move. You will need to wash it to keep it running optimal. I simply place in washer with a normal load of laundry and let it air dry. I've washed it 2x and haven't had any shrinkage or other issues like interference with other devices such as my Zune that I listen to during my workouts.

The watch strap itself has plenty of length and isn't bulky looking. It has a night glow feature which I find very handy since majority of my workouts is done @ night. Operating it for use is pretty easy and you can easily change what you want the watch to display from HRM, Calories burned, and whether your current HRM is in the Fat Burning zone or Fitness zone. It also tracks your total time spent. Buttons can seem a little hard to press but I think it's a good design feature so you don't accidently press a button by mistake when moving around.

I've read that previous Polar HRM's you could not replace the battery yourself and needed to send back to Polar to do so. However with this model you can replace it yourself. I haven't had the need to yet since I've only owned this for a month. I also got the optional computer link flow accessory allowing you to sync up your stored data on the watch to Polar's free software on their site. It tracks your progress and other bits of helpful information via your PC.

Overall I am happy with the purchase. It does what I need it to do and works. I gave it 4 outta 5 stars since I haven't had to replace the battery yet. When it comes time to do so I will update my review and rating depending on how that goes.

***Nov. 2011 UPDATE***
I have not had to replace battery yet on it but b/c I was troubleshooting another Polar product, Bluetooth WearLink+, I needed to access the battery in the transmitter and happy to say no problems! Easy to remove and replace the battery in the Polar FT40 transmitter. I now give it full 5 stars! Unfortunately shame on you Polar for designing such a crappy bluetooth WearLink+ transmitter. I still strongly suggest Polar for HRM needs but DO NOT get their Bluetooth WearLink+ transmitter. IT IS CRAP!
